Laurel Hill Cemetery Remembrance
Active and retired members of the United States Marine Corps at Laurel Hill Cemetery commemorated the 237th anniversary of the founding of the Marine Corps in Philadelphia on November 10, 1775. The service took place at the grave site of Brigadier General Jacob A. Zeilin, the first United States Marine non-brevet general, who served as the seventh Commandant of the Corps from 1864 to 1876. After the service, the Cemetery marked Veterans’ Day with a tour of the final resting places of some of the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country during the Revolutionary War, the Indian Wars, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, in Korea, and in Vietnam. This service and tour was led by president of the General Meade Society of Philadelphia, Dr. Andy Waskie.
