PSRA Rowing City Championship May 5, 2013
Seventy high school rowing teams from four states competed in the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association's (PSRA) annual "City Championships" on Sunday, May 5, 2013 on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. This championship regatta concluded a series of six regattas sponsored by the PSRA on the Schuylkill River, including the five Flick-Horvat Regattas which ran on Sundays from March 17 through April 21. The final Flick regatta on April 21 included 587 entries from 86 high schools and was bigger than the 2012 Dad Vail Regatta.
It all began with a handful of local boys' schools in the 1970s and has grown into one of the largest high school rowing competitions in the country. Not only are gold, silver and bronze medals awarded in all events that day, but they also award points trophies to the boys' and girls' teams that have accumulated the most points during the series of the five Flick regattas. Here's a small glimpse of what the day looked like through my lens. Enjoy!
